The Land

12 acres in Cuba, New Mexico — where the high desert meets the Rio Puerco valley.

12 Acres Overview

Located in Cuba, New Mexico — known in Diné Bizaad as Na'azísí Bito', meaning Gopher's Water — this 12.111 acre property sits at roughly 6,900 feet elevation along the high desert plateau.

The property faces the Nacimiento Mountains to the east and the dramatic mesa cliffs to the west — framing the land between two powerful geological landmarks. The high desert environment brings cold winters, warm summers, consistent winds, and some of the darkest night skies in New Mexico.

Purchased in January 2023, the land was covered in dense sagebrush and juniper. Phase 0 clearing work began immediately and continues today — transforming raw high desert into a working homestead.

Eastern Parcel — Rio Puerco Valley

The eastern edge of the property drops into the Rio Puerco river valley — a dramatic shift from the high desert plateau to a riparian corridor lined with cottonwood trees nearly 40 feet tall. The arroyo cuts nearly 10 feet deep through the landscape.

This parcel is the most ecologically rich section of the land — home to cottonwoods, native grasses, and wildlife that move through the valley corridor. Plans for this area are forming slowly and intentionally, honoring what already exists here.

Early Vision

  • Sunken Cabin in the Arroyo

Taking advantage of the natural 10-foot arroyo cut, a sunken cabin structure built into the earth itself — sheltered by the arroyo walls, shaded by cottonwoods, and connected to the river valley below. A truly off-grid dwelling tucked into the landscape.

  • Wooden Platforms — Yoga & Picnic

Elevated wooden deck platforms nestled among the cottonwoods along the arroyo rim — spaces for morning yoga, quiet picnics, or simply sitting with the river valley views and birdsong below. Designed to sit lightly on the land.

🌱 This parcel is in early vision stages — updates will come as plans develop with intention and care for the existing ecosystem.
